Repression of environmental activism

What is the repertoire of repression against environmental activists? From January to May, I am working with the Finnish Youth Research Society in a research project about young environmental activists and repression/criminalization, led by Sofia Laine. As usual, I will pay special attention to emotions. In the latest episode of our podcast with Dr. Thomas Doherty, we discuss these matters more. I introduce important research from Rossdale, Berglund and colleagues about “The global criminalisation and repression of climate and environmental protest” (Environmental Politics journal, 2025). These nasty developments need to be resisted by wide societal networks.
